Acerca de Theresa Viera

In a relatively short period of time, Theresa Viera has emerged as a leader within her legal community, wielding formidable legal talent and prowess to help her clients through their harrowing family law matters. The founder of Modern Legal law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, she serves residents across Mecklenburg County and Union, Cabarrus, Iredell and Gaston counties in myriad issues involving:

  • Divorce and separation
  • High-asset divorce
  • Adoptions
  • Child custody and support
  • Military divorce
  • Same-sex family law issues
  • Domestic violence and neglect
  • Property division
  • Spousal support
  • Termination of parental rights

Ms. Viera is a proponent of using alternative dispute resolution methods such as arbitration and mediation, to help her clients overcome their family law challenges and where both parties can reach a consensus regarding the same. She understands the difficulty of handling a contentious family law matter while still managing daily affairs, and she strives to take on all the legal burdens of her clients so they can focus on better opportunities in their bright futures.

For her many contributions, Ms. Viera has been named a Legal Elite by Business North Carolina, and she has been included in the Ones to Watch list by Best Lawyers, the Family Law Power list by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, the Top 10 Attorneys list by the American Jurist Institute and the Client Satisfaction 10 Best Female Attorneys list by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys. Furthermore, she has been rated a perfect “10.0” on Avvo and was awarded the site’s Client’s Choice Award for hosting numerous positive client testimonials.

Ms. Viera pursued her undergraduate studies at The George Washington University, and during her time there, she was a member of the Ballroom Dance Society and the Roosevelt Institution. After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs and political science in 2008, she went on to attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.

At law school, Ms. Viera was an active participant in many student organizations, including the International and Comparative Law organization (vice president) and the International Law Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Team (Executive Member). She also studied abroad in Tanzania and Egypt, expanding her worldview and giving her immense exposure to many cultures and traditions. She received her Juris Doctor in 2012, and in the same year, she obtained her license to practice law in North Carolina.

Within her legal community, Ms. Viera maintains close affiliations with many prominent organizations such as the Gaston County Bar Association, the Charlotte Women Attorneys, the Association of Latino Professionals for America, the Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce, the American Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association.
